Trading After You Have Made Your Pick In Draft

Say I draft a guy, but someone puts an offer in for him (along with some other picks to come later in the same draft). Will I be responsible for the Contract of the player I just drafted?

I ask because I was under the impression that you are not responsible for the contract of drafted players until after the TC spin.

I think you have to sign him to trade him - making you responsible for the lost bonus.

But you can cut him without any recompense? That's strange.

I also think that's a little odd. You can trade your picks like crazy, but you can't trade "the player" you picked while the draft is ongoing. :(

The reason you can cut him without any recompense is in the case that you don't have the cap room for him, or if somehow you accidentally pick a player that will mess up your cap, you have a way to be forgiven at the cost of only the pick. By trading him you are still getting some value of him being on your roster. I know you technically could have traded the pick itself and your trading partner selected that player, but once the pick has been made there is a known quantity and so it is already different than trading the pick. (For example, your trading partner probably was waiting to see if the player dropped, and he didn't, which means that you should be able to get more for the player than you did for the pick, so you're gaining value by having him on your roster. The bonus cap his is a cost of that advantage.)

That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. :)
