What governs interceptions?

My QB has 97 accuracy, 97 intelligence, 94 arm strength, 86 release, 100 look off def, 100 field of vision and 14 interceptions after 6 games. His throwing skills are basically superb. His evasion, not so much, but interceptions aren't occurring when he's pressured. He makes some really dopey choices of receiver once in a while, but that's a known quirk of the current engine and affects everyone.

His receiver core are route-runners first and foremost, some better than others, but they're hand picked for their ability to be in the right place at the right time.

His interception throwing isn't a new thing, it's this way every season. So I'm somewhat curious as to the cause - is it wholly governed by defenders? In the interplay between QB, receiver and defender where does the balance lie in deciding whether it's a pick or not?

1) Passing Play vs Defense Play
2) Pressure
3) RNG
4) Someone substituting a 100 catch WR as a DB

Regarding pass catching (the stat) specifically - if a receiver has low catching, how does that affect interceptions? I get CBs with high catching have a better interception chance if they're given the opportunity, but what gives them the opportunity in the first place?

Reworded: my receiver muffs the catch, does that then give the defender a crack at the pick-off? Or is it catching vs catching to replicate a 50/50 ball?

What do you mean with 3) RNG?

Random Number Generator ... general game randomness.

There's such a thing as a quarterback who just has rocks in his head and makes lousy decisions no matter what. It also might be the offensive line and not the quarterback, or it might be the receivers themselves. They need a certain amount of speed and acceleration to "get open," even if the route running is really good.

My QB has been frustrating me for 7 seasons now.

I still haven't been able to effectively replace him.

Somehow, I still don't have any grays.

All good observations above - I do have speed/acceleration in my primary receivers, but I've always neglected catching due to the assumption that it only had an impact on... catching. I'm experimenting with a RR+PC guy to see what shakes loose.

O-line isn't the issue. They're good enough. My QB chokes plenty because his acceleration, speed and scrambling **** - but that makes for sacks. Almost no interceptions come as a result of pressure.

Playaction is particularly prone to error of this kind.

The INTs have perplexed me since 4.5. In the same boat with great attributes and high INTs. I think Ive tried everything. Playbook/short pass/play familiarization/you name it. Thing is, I have traded some of these QBs who didnt live up to their potential and now they are league MVPs. I cant get anyone to give up the secret to success for the QB.

I can't get anyone to tell me either. Probably the secret is, there is no secret. A good QB is so precious, because a bad one is so maddening.
