The bill for these kinds of trades always comes due. A (theoretically) very late second and very late third round pick for a 32 year old linebacker whose best days are behind him is very shortsighted. If the Rams win the Super Bowl this season it will seem like a good move, but eventually everyone will get old and they won't be able to draft young, cheap replacements - same as billy.
I'm a NY Giants fan who lives in LA - Rams just traded a younger LB to Denver last week, so maybe this has been in the works for a while. Exciting in the moment and probably improves a defense that isn't as good as last year, but still the wrong move IMO.

I think the Rams use the vets differently than other teams. They hold them back for playoffs. I felt like Suh was most productive during the playoffs. He was pretty old in football years when he went there.
I kind of think they are on a timeline and it is coming to an end. Getting the vets fits that, they can be there for the most meaningful snaps.

Of course we are comparing perennial contenders vs Billy
Following up on this, I read today that the Rams haven't had a first round pick in 7 years! Billy's last first round pick was in 2029, 8 years ago! Maybe Billy is secretly Les Snead?!?!

I live in Detroit area. This is all super relevant to me. Think of this.
Bread Holmes has 4 first round picks over the next two years. I think the lions have 7 picks next year at the moment. Holmes was able to hit gold in later rounds for Rams.
I would get excited for the prospective outcomes of what he will do with 4 firsts over two years, but this is the Lions.

And that first round pick was Jared Goff - lol!
Under a different coach, Jeff Fisher. And I think while still in St.Louis.
