A New Generation of Passers?
As training camps wrap up across the country, the early indications from observers is that the rookie class of 2020 may generate some serious buzz at the QB position. Four QBs were taken in the first round and early reports seems to indicate all four could have futures in the league. Number one pick Wayne Smith and number two pick Michael Higgins both ended training camp about where people expected. Each has the potential to be a generational quarterback. Only time will tell. But at least, neither completely flopped during training camp.
Many teams were scared off by the third QB among the top rated rookies, Jacksonville's Todd Sather, who many believed was too combustible to succeed in the league, but so far, he's been a perfect citizen and learning quickly. Might he wind up even better than the top two QBs now that his off-field issues are behind him? And even pick 32 in the first round Andrew Martinez, drafted as a project QB, seems to be showing signs that he is quickly picking up the pro game. Will this be remembered as the year of the QB? We'll see the start of if as preseason action kicks off next week!
