Reports out of the Duckies' headquarters have apparently indicated a change of course for the Duckies' season, one way or another.
A leak from a source within the team has suggested that the week 9 change to QB Richard Jameson, after three surprising wins under Fred McNair, was mandated by owner Bill Steinbach, under protest of coach Mike Sweeney.
Sweeney has previously said that he doesn't think the team is ready to compete, and felt that developing younger talent was best for the team.
Success soon followed, against all odds, with the young guys somehow pulling out three straight wins, despite terrible stats. Those three wins brought the team back over .500 for the season, at 3-2-1.
According to the source, owner Bill Steinbach called the coaching staff into a meeting, and informed them that he expects the veterans to perform as well as the youth, who have ushered in the three game streak. It's suspected that Steinbach also dictated the QB change, citing McNair's poor play, despite the wins.
Analysts are divided as to the results of the move, which resulted in a blowout of the previously 2-4 Denver Rocky Mountain Bronx. Others point to the fact that the team seemed to rally behind Jamerson's return, helping him to go 14-18 for 122 yards, while only being sacked once. This was emphasized by the backfield rushing 49 times, for almost 4.9 yards per carry, which can make any QB's job easier.
No matter what your opinion, we'll find out soon what the results of Steinbach's decision is, as the team takes on three teams over .500 in the next four games, including (as of this point) undefeated division rival Rapid Valley.
It would still be possible to make the playoffs with even two wins in those four games, but the opportunity to make a statement weighs heavily.
