A lot was at stake at the end of last season when Hall of Fame QB Timothy Thompson hung it up after 13 seasons. Then, in a phenomenal twist no one could have predicted, Thompson turned around and bought the Boston Biscuits franchise and relocated them to his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Now, eight games into the 2022 season, the newly minted Arkansas Thrashers are 7-1 and sitting atop the AFC East standings with a 3 game advantage. After only one start, Thompson's own back-up, Jacob Christopher, took the helm and led the Thrashers to an 0-1 start. The offense was clunky and stalled.
Thompson, now GM and CEO, pulled the trigger on career back-up John Prentice formerly of the New York Jets...nee Angry Beers. This was a man who made FOUR regular season passing attempts in three previous season and was now the starter for the Arkansas Thrashers. Pundits and players alike scoffed at Prentice, but now the 9 year pro is rated 1st in yards, yards per attempt, TDs, and QB Rating after 7 career starts. During his first five starts, he had thrown 0 Interceptions, but has now amassed 4 over the last two games, but holds a still impressive 7:1 TD:INT ratio.
However, not all can be laid at Prentice's feet, long-time stud RB Clarence Sorenson has over 1000 all purpose yards and has been a safety valve averaging 11.0 yards per catch.
The Defense, too, has racked up nearly 40 sacks and 12 Interceptions and yet to allow over 20 points in a game.
There were some questions coming into this season, new location, new QB, but it seems that Thompson has a firm hand on the franchise off the field as much as he ever did on the field.
