How to improve team

Hello, I am new to the league and have gotten my feet wet on the site for some time now but just can’t find a way to win more games. Here is a team that I have that I feel like is an above par team and should be winning more games.

I guess im not looking on how to improve this team but (use it as an example) how to become a better player on this site.

Taking a quick look at your team, you need to balance out your positions. Personally, I like to have at least 6 CBs. You currently only have 3. You certainly don't need to have 2 punters and 2 kickers, so I would cut your weaker punter and your weaker kicker. You don't need 8 WRs, so I would cut Joe Moran and Robert Teel. Cut RB Paul Harris because he is way too slow. Replace those 5 guys with guys from the free agency. Grab the 3 best CBs with at least 70 speed (60 is fine too but not ideal), and grab the 2 best SLBs with at least 50 speed.

In the public suggestion forum, I drafted a suggested speed for each position and it is pretty relevant in determining the minimum speed each player should have at each position. I believe speed is king, and you must have fast players at speed positions.

Below is what I have as suggested speeds at each position (minimum to maximum). They can be lower than their suggested slowest speeds but ideally they'll be within those speed ranges. If you ever encounter two players with near identical ratings, you should almost always take the guy with faster speed.

QB: 0-100
HB: 70-100
FB: 50-80
WR: 70-100
TE: 50-80
OL: 0-70
LB: 50-80
DL: 10-80
DB: 70-100
K: 0-70

When it comes to gameplanning, I would take a look at the plays you are selecting on offense and defense. I generally remove any offensive plays that result in 4 or less yards over 6 games. On defense, I try to replace plays that give up 8 or more yards per play. You should take a look at your defensive plays, and try to balance it out. By that I mean, you get 30 plays to choose from. I would pick 2-3 Goal Line plays, 10 Normal, 10 Nickel, 5 Dime, 2-3 Quarter. Mix it up with both blitzes and non-blitz plays. Test it out, see what works, and make changes from there.
Take a look at the guides Norm and I wrote, they should definitely put you on the path to success if you follow them.

Hi Walleandmomo. I looked over your Baltimore team. Some observations. You have all the building blocks of a good offense. Your weakness is your WRs. They are too slow. Probably not getting open because they are too slow. Notice your WR3 on down have almost no catches.

Also on offense, part of it is going to be patience. You have a rookie QB and some young players like your offensive linemen. You need time for them to develop and time for them to learn the plays. This game requires patience. Sometimes there aren't any quick fixes. I haven't looked at your game plans, but that could be an issue too, but you will learn that as you play more. Are you just autosorting your game plan? The game plan does make a difference.

Looking at your defense, it looks like that is where your team needs to improve. Your D-line is too weak and too slow. Look at how your team has almost no sacks. That's terrible. D-line is probably a big priority for you. Your LB are also terrible and you don't have enough. You only have 3 LB active, so no backups. When they get tired, you are dead there. Your LB are also too slow. Likewise, you don't have enough DBs. You start 4 DBs, but against passing teams, you have to play 6 or 7 DBs. (dime and quarter defense) Having only 6 total, you have no backups and are playing your lousy DBs. Other than Silvers, all your DB are terrible and should be let go. They are too slow and not skilled enough.

So the main reason why you keep losing is that your defense stinks. You invested too much on offense and ignored the other half of the game. you only have 17 defensive players total!
