Battle of the Bridges

Welcome to the new rivalry thread of the London Monarchs and the Pennsauken Del Fuego Phoenix.

Named after the world famous Tower Bridge in London and the lesser known Betsy Ross Bridge connecting Pennsauken New Jersey to Philadelphia, this rivalry informally began in 2031, when current London management took over and the Phoenix was formerly known as the Houston Golden Dragon. With Pennsauken's obsession to prove that the London Monarchs will one day be world champions, even before his own franchise, this rivalry is always entertaining.

Interesting fact, since this rivalry began in 2031 the Monarchs and Golden Dragon/Del Fuego Phoenix have gone 3-3 in the series, with the road team winning all six contests. With London hosting Pennsauken in week 1 2034, we'll see if a home team can actually send their fans home happy for once!

The streak is broken! Monarchs actually defend the home field with a 19-0 victory over Pennsauken in the 2034 season opener. If only my defense could play that well all season!

Monarchs are able to complete the season sweep with a 17-13 win in week 6. The pregame trade by the Del Fuego Phoenix to acquire speedy WR Sam Evans from the Shadow Dancers for a batch of draft picks is sure to cause many sleepless nights for the London secondary going forward.

The Monarchs have now won three straight in the series, and lead 5-3 overall since the series was established in 2031.

Pennsauken and London were outscored 86-3 in 2035 week 1 - which squad will show up with some self respect in week 2?

Both teams go with a dink and dunk passing attack, but the Monarchs prevail in the end 24-15. Pennsauken holds the ball for more than 9 minutes longer with Steven Bowie leading the rushing attack, but QB Matthew Avila throws TD passes of 16, 28 and 25 yards while only getting sacked twice to get the win. London has now won four straight games in the series.

Despite the Phoenix swinging for the fences prior to the game by trading for RB Clint Walker of the Shadow Dancers and WR Antonio Harris of the Terror prior to their week 8 showdown, the Monarchs cruise to an easy 24-3 victory.

London completes the season sweep for the second straight year, and has now won five straight games against Pennsauken. Time will tell how much patience fans in New Jersey will show as manager billyvan mortgages the future trading away multiple high draft picks for flashy offensive players, but not picking up wins on the field.
