I had no idea that you could do that ctrl f thing on game logs - I'll definitely need to check it out.

That’s just a prompt to Find (ctrl+F) a text strand on any page. It’s not in MFN exclusively. I use Chrome but I assume it’s built in to every browser.

Without Finding certain key words, it’s just too much to read in the game logs. I want to cut down how much I have to do. I am real efficient like that.

Gotcha - I thought you were saying it was some MFN exclusive feature to sort through the game logs. I do skim the log after a game looking for certain key plays or overuse warnings to figure out what happened.

OK, defensive rules. Without giving away anybody's strategies, I'm trying to figure out how to set them up effectively. I have a lot more defensive rules than offensive rules (seems like most people who use them do too) but I'm not sure how often they overrule the normal AI coaching.

I usually set rules for defensive sets based on an opponent's formation. Is it better to set them for specific field location, down and distance, score and time remaining, or set it for the entire 100 yards of the field, down 29+ to up 29+, first through fourth downs short medium and long distance all 60 minutes of play? (Hopefully that makes sense)

I don't know if the rules I've tried to make are TOO specific, and the situations never come up so the AI never uses them. I never like messing with the sliders thinking I'll totally blow up my defense, so I figured rules would be a way to get around that. It just seems like things I've tried to wipe out with new rules keep happening, and I'm not sure how I'm setting them up incorrectly.

Sorry I haven't had time to add to this discussion, but with rules, I would say its trial and error. I use rules to force the CPU to call certain plays. So you check at the end of the game, did the CPU call that play in that situation. And if not, adjust the sliders so that the certain play or plays rise to the top. You can click the "view plays" associated with your rule to see what percentage the plays are supposed to be called.

Thanks Norm. There's one particular issue with my defense that I've tried to correct with rules *and* the sliders but just keeps happening. If I can fix that I will at least be able to stop saying "what if" after every loss.

Overrides - do people use them just as much on defense as on offense?

I know some owners put a 100 catching RB in as a FB in formations with dump off passes to the backfield, or put the elite WR in a certain spot for the "money" passing plays (the few that still exist in 4.6), but what about on defense? For example: is it better to put a 100 tackle 100 run defense DT in at a specific d line spot, or just rely on your depth chart - if he's DT1 or DT2 he's going to be on the field regardless depending on which defensive plays you pick. If you have a 68 speed 95 M2M CB that you don't want to play constantly is it better to keep him active but listed as CB4 or CB5 instead of trying plug him into a specific defensive formation?

The Thrashers always have great DBs Kurse - do you put the most emphasis on speed/acceleration, intelligence or m2m skills? (obviously you'd like all three). I'm guessing you'll say m2m, but what speed is too slow to make 100 m2m valuable.

I'm doing an allocation draft in a new league 'm not planning on taking very seriously, but I'm curious what skills you'd use as a tiebreaker or chase after.

Speed is still king but acc and M2M and BR are moving to be as important. I prefer Punish and Tackle more than Int

Edit:
I think I read somewhere that speed is parabolic which means anything over 60 is usable and anything between 80-100 are preferred. Before you needed 90+ CBs or those fast WRs would be beat you over the top...long passes don't connect much anymore, so there's no need to be as fast.

Interesting - I figured you'd like intelligence more. I rarely look at b&r, but maybe I will start paying attention to that more.

I'm still favoring the 90 speed guys, but maybe I'll give some 60 speed guys more of a look. Any idea if strength is parabolic for o and d linemen? Maybe I'm missing out on useful 60-70 strength guys too.

B/R is crucial for the battle on the LoS in man coverage. Slowing down or Knocking guys off their route. Hand fighting in the first 5 yards. Zone coverage, B/R doesn’t matter because you’re playing off and overseeing that zone.

High intelligence might help lessen some penalties or be in a better position to intercept. Its tertiary at best to speed and acc.

Not sure how strength works. I’m still in the camp of highest you can get in any attribute

I wasn't sure how far b&r was important, or if a 23 strength CB with 95 b&r would have much impact. I thought high intelligence on defense would give the defender an advantage of reading the play and get an INT - Allen Reynoso of the Argos being the example of the perfect DB.

I'm with you about wanting the highest ratings at all skills, but trying to figure out tiebreakers if you can't decide between drafting a WR or a LG.
