The only “rule” is no DBs on the front four. You can have fast LBs or fast DL. Keeping a long list prevents situations like what happened where the CPU puts in a CB after an injury.

Got it. I've been in a few leagues where someone got called out for the exploit, but never explained what they were doing. I'm going to check my other teams now to make sure I'm not at risk of an accidental block - good sportsmanship. Thanks for the info.

another point I am unsure of, is what happens then when we are setting up the regular depth chart and due to injuries or whatever you have set up your active 46.......sometimes less. How many active player then is a minimum for the ST? 10? I have all Defensive Linemen and LB at the ST Rusher position and then ordered by effective ability. However once set I don't go back and ensure that I have 10 active as ST rushers for each game, I guess I should then correct? If I inadvertently make too many of those active to stay within the 46 am I then opening my self up to have illegal subs? does that make sense?

There's only 4 ST rushers, and you have to have 7 combined DL and LB (either 3-4 or 4-3), plus backups, so it should be covered unless you're putting DB's in at those positions on Defense.

With the playoffs approaching, I want to implore everyone to check their Special Teams Rusher depth charts to ensure you have all DL or LBs covering the position and list a good number (7 or 8) of players.

It was recently reported to me that a team was playing speed 90 DBs and RBs on the punt rush team. We learned that the owner had not checked the special teams list all year and had only 4 players on the list and the CPU was putting the other folks in. It was a mistake and forgiven, but we would hate for some playoff game to be decided by a punt block if a lazy owner never checked their special teams depth chart. Please take one minute to do so between now and the playoffs.

Also, if you suspect any team of trying to exploit punt blocks, please let me know so I can investigate. The investigation is anonymous.

Up until a few weeks ago, I would put the entire punt return team in the ST Rushers box, with all DL or LBs in the first 5-6 spots on the list, never occured to me to check that as I only used the overide when I wanted to put a DB or WR with 90+ speed at the DE spots. And once most if not all the leagues that I was in had a rule against the punt rush exploit, I never really bothered or paid much attention to the punt rush team other than the returner. My ST Rush box was not squared away for the Dozers, but now I make sure that the ST Rush box is all DL/LBs.

I usually dont pay it too much attention, at begin of season try to set up enough DLine/LB on the ST Rushers chart so that even if I have a couple inactives it should be fine and not put our team in a position to gain unfair advantage. I enjoy the competition and banter too much to not. but it is good to go look and go thru the exercise especially this time of season.

There can be different terminology used for gunner/jammers and the like, I wish there was a resource here that clearly laid it out.
My understanding of it is that the the return team uses 4 ST Rushers on the Line and 6 ST Gunners (not sure how they are numbered). So I guess if by chance you had all LB at the top of your ST Rushers and also had the same listed as Gunners, depending on the order and if you didn't have sufficient depth it could create a situation where AI grabbed some random player. All that to say that yeah good to ensure that ST Rushers depth is sufficient as my understanding is that is where the issue is.

I also avoid putting starters on special teams. All subs other than maybe return, long snapper, kick holder.
