2049 Off-Season ReportLongtime Offensive Coordinator Frank Wrobel retired after 14 seasons with Seattle. Wrobel was one of the few transitional pieces after Owner John Spartan acquired the team with the exception of Coach Ira Lane. Lane also retired after 25 years with Seattle working in various roles during that time.
In their places, RB Coach Jamie Brown will take over playing calling offensively, and newcomer Kevin Loehr assumes the running backs coach. Theron Lozada was hired to fill the void as the defensive line coach.
Extensions and Free AgencyDespite having over $100m in capital, Seattle was not able to secure any high-profile free agent targets. Instead, the team shifted money in re-signing team assets to longer extensions for WR Nathaniel Poe, DT David Pharr, and CB Bill Cutting. However, the team did add: FB James Larsen (CHI) and DT Daniel Hamblin as depth. Additionally, the team brought back back-up QB Matthew Park on a one year deal as well.
2049 Draft and Training CampThe Spartans took an offensive approach to this draft utilizing 4 of 6 picks to bolster the offense. As a result, the roster will be marginally thinner on the other side of the ball this season. Here is the Seatte Spartan Rookie Class by round:
(1:21) OG "Doc" Octavius, TE, Tennessee. 6'3" 262 lbs.
Training Camp: +6/+2, Current Default Rating: 92
After training camp, the only flaw in Doc's game is his speed is his average speed. That will increase slightly as he slims up, but the team sees him as an every-down player, not just blocking and routes, because he's also in line for the longsnapper role, too. Octavius will assuredly see a lot of goal line work, like his colleague WR Paul Best, and it's possible to see a ceiling of ten or more TDs his rookie season.
(2:20) Flint "Sandman" Marko, G, Tennessee St. 6'3", 282 lbs.
Training Camp: +18/+3, Current Default Rating: 89
Marko should be an elite lineman and an immediate impact player. His weight should increase to 300lbs+ while retaining 90 strength and 75 speed and acceleration. He's extremely smart and disciplined as well. He's expected to have 100 ratings in both run and pass block.
(4:20) Maximo Dillon, WR, Alabama. 5'11", 189lbs.
Training Camp: +4/+1, Current Default Rating: 56
Dillon has a lot left to be desired, but the pool did not have much left after the 3rd round. He does have blazing speed. In a pinch, he could return kicks as well. It's possible that Dillon could assume the Danny Flynn role as the team's deep threat (not that it exists in this incarnation of the game).
(5:21) Quentin Beck, CB, Howard. 5'11", 195lbs.
Training Camp: 0/-18, Current Draft Rating: 40
Beck floundered in camp and there will be no opportunities for him on the squad.
(6:20) Sergei Kraven, FB, Florida St. 5'11", 226 lbs.
Training Camp: +3/-4, Current Default Rating: 47
Kraven will be cut to make room for other potential players.
(7:21) Adrien Toomes, CB, Elon College. 6'0", 196
Training Camp: +5/+0, Current Default Rating: 60
Toomes isn't awful. He just might not be enough to make the team. He seems like an excellent special teams player with a penchant for bump and run coverage and can possibly return kicks in a pinch.
