Boston Biscuits 2021 update

After winning it all in 2020, words like "dynasty" and "repeat" can be gleaned from the idle chatter of the denizens of Boston, but in the locker room, it's all work and no play for the Golden Boys. After some coaching turnover and an exceptional draft, including four eventual starters with only five draft picks, now Boston is poised to once again go deep into the playoffs.

Week 1 seemed easy enough but a somewhat lackluster win over Indy had a few fans holding their breath. Then, a tough loss down in Miami in Week 2 even had some pundits already predicting a Championship Hangover. The team made some play-calling adjustments and just for good measure fired their off-season acquisition Kicker who started off 1/3 FG and 3/4 PATs.

The bold move must have got the locker room's attention because in Week 3, the Biscuits looked ever the championship team, hanging 77 on the Terre Haute Terror, including a rare pick six.

Timothy Thompson now in his 13th year and Super Bowl MVP dropped ten--count em--10 dimes to six different receivers. Clarence Sorenson had over 210 yards rushing, and the defense delivered 10 sacks and two interceptions.

A lot of hype has been focused on the defensive front four, which has been solid if not a little underwhelming, but it's possible that so much attention has been placed on stopping those big boys that WLB Randall Knox has stepped out of the shadows and into the spotlight, recording 3 sacks, 2 interceptions (1 for a pick six), and a forced fumble in the first three games.

Now, riding high off the win, Boston gets another division rival, Buffalo, at home in Week 4. Boston is heavily favored by the bookies, but anything can happen on a Sunday, and the Golden Boys of Boston are bringing it as if it were Super Bowl Sunday.

Another high-flying affair in Granny Smith's Buttermilk Biscuit Bazaar last night, but the Golden Boys of Boston take home the W after a much improved Buffalo team tested the limits. Newly acquired Kicker Ryan Wilson hit his first and only Field Goal of the season--a 51 yarder--to run out the clock and seal the deal 45-42.

Timothy Thompson completed 58% of his pass for 415 yards and two TDs (1 Int), and although the running game was decent, start RB Clarence Sorenson suffered a neck injury that could sideline him for 3-4 weeks.

On the defensive side of the ball, more adjustments need to be made, especially giving up big passing plays. The pass rush is applying pressure, but not getting to the QB enough, but overall the team is winning the Turnover Margin and is 1st in the league. The defense is averaging 4 sacks per game (2 in the last) and averaging 1.5 turnovers per game as well.

The Biscuits flew into Cleveland and took care of business, holding the Browns to 17 points (7 of which came in junk time with 2:00 minutes remaining in the 4th).

QB Timothy Thompson turned another impressive performance with five TDs on 584 yards passing and one INT. His accuracy was a little questionable, just shy of 50%, but the deep ball was certainly in play as all of his scores were outside of the redzone.

The running game was lackluster with RB Clarence Sorenson limited to a reserve WR role, but with the passing game so strong, it wasn't necessarily needed for balance.

The defense obliterated the run game of Cleveland which averaged only 1.34 yards on 29 carries, and picked up another two sacks bringing a 5 game total of 18 which is 3rd in the league.

Next week, the Golden Boys take on Cincinatti, the second of a three game road trip which ends in Buffalo on October 17th. Boston is heavily favored, but the Bangles are 4-1 so the team will take nothing for granted.

The Boston Biscuits took the charter bus from Cleveland to Cincinnati and with them brought the Buttermilk Brigade along for the ride. It was a low-key but efficient game for Thompson with 350 yards passing with 4 TDs (0 INT).

For the 5th time this season, the Defense held the opposing team to 20 points or less, although zero pressure was generated by the big men up front. Rookie DT Jason Voorhees with his nearly 80" wingspan, however, snagged a key interception at the line of scrimmage.

Next week, Boston will fly to division rivals Buffalo to end a three game road trip. The Golden Boys are hyped to take on the high-scoring Bills offense again.

The Biscuits retreated home from Buffalo last night and was met with a surge of violent protests from fans. Chants for Coach Castillo's job (and head) could be heard throughout the metropolitan area.

Although the team was rather efficient on the ground and through the air, the Bills just had enough of an edge to pull out the victory at home.

Boston faces Miami at home next week in another potential high-flying match up.

After a long road stretch, the Golden Boys of Boston returned home to face division rivals Miami, whom the Biscuits already faced earlier in the season and lost narrowly. When all was said and done, the Boys came out the victors but not without some key losses.

The Good

Timothy Thompson completed 26 passes for over 400 yards, 3 TDs and 0 Ints. Over 120 yards was gained on the ground as well from Sorenson and Shafer. The Defense had 3 interceptions and 1 sack, increasing the turnover margin to 10.0 for the season (1st in the league). The Offense also dominated the clock nearly 2:1, a total of 39:00 minutes.

The Bad

Fumbles cropped up--two uncharacteristically from QB Thompson. Neither one was lost fortunately. Run plays averaged less than 4.0 yards per carry. Little pressure has been generated by the defensive front over the last 4 games. The Defense still allowed 30 points in spite of the opposing Offense having the ball only 20 minutes.

The Ugly

Star RB Clarence Sorenson has serious leg injury that may keep him out until December. DE Max Dicken also suffered an injury and is already being withheld from Sunday's match against the Jets. Currently, he's considered week-to-week with a possible return in 3 weeks.

Boston hosted the New York Jets this weekend in fairly mediocre affair. Timothy Thompson looked uninspired in the Offense and back-up RB Fred Shafer carved out a nice chunk on the ground, but it was certainly not anything to write home about. The Defense maintained their presence and acquired 3 sacks and a fumble recovery and limited the Jets to 10 points.

A gruesome injury sidelined leading receiver Robert Gutierrez; he is expected to miss the rest of the regular season. Injuries may be a factor continuing on, especially after the loss of RB Clarence Sorenson last week.

The Biscuits will now travel to Washington to face the Redskins another 7-2 team. This will be a testament to the Golden Boys' resolve in the face of adversity.

The Biscuits took on the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday and performed well on both sides of the ball, winning handily 41-0.

Thompson had 4 TDs with 1 INT and threw completed just under 50% of his passes. Fred Shafer racked up 193 yards on the ground averaging nearly 11 YPC. The Defense accrued another two sacks and consistently held Pittsburgh's offense in check, allowing zero points.

Boston travels to Denver next week to take on the AFC West division leader.

The Golden Boy Brigade flew into the Mile High City and put on a clinic Sunday.

The team played deliciously in all three phases, but honestly, the Defense had one for the ages. 4 Int, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles (no recoveries), less than 200 yards passing allowed, and an average 3rd down with over 10 yards to go.

The Offense capitalized on all the mistakes as well: 8 trips to the Red Zone, all ending in points. Thompson threw for over 450 yards with 5 TDs and 1 Int. RB Clarence Sorenson returned in a very limited running role, but the whole crew amassed over 200 yards on the ground.

As the season pushes into the final weeks, it appears the Boston Biscuits are again poised to go deep into the playoffs, but can the Boys really push for a third Super Bowl appearance in so many years? Might be too early to tell, but if this is how Boston plays in January, watch out...
