For the second consecutive week, the Seahawks found themselves unable to put points on the scoreboard as the team fell 17-3 to the Anteaters of Irvine. With the euphoria of a 4-game winning streak and celebration of the team's highest victory count squarely in the rear view mirror, Seattle slides to 6-4 for the season now.
And given the schedule ahead, they'd better get the ship straightened in a hurry if they plan to hold on to that wildcard slot that is presently theirs. (Hey, Seattle fans aren't accustomed to talking playoffs, we're going to do it while we can here at Sea WHAT?)
For the second consecutive week, the Seahawks surrendered a kick return for a touchdown due to a failure to complete tackles on special teams. This time, the damage was tallied at a full 110 yards for the stat book.
Seattle outgained Irvine 275-265, but it was the Anteaters who proved the more efficient in their use of the yards gained. Several Seahawk drives petered out near midfield, just beyond the range of kicker Byron Cheek. Once the scoreboard reached the fourth quarter, the Seattle offense simply checked out, losing 8 yards over the final 15 minutes.
Chris Jordan was 26-for-32, but once again the throws all worked the shorter zones and resulted in just 163 yards overall. The rookie might be running into a wall as he adapts to the length and pace of the professional game.
Seattle heads to Washington (5-5) for what has suddenly become a critical must-win game for the Seahawks' postseason chances.
