Seattle's four-game winning streak crashed to a halt in a 10-9 loss to Dallas. On a night when the Seahawks' defense played well enough to win, two plays changed the course of the evening.

The first came after Seattle's Byron Cheek connected on his third field goal of the game to put the Seahawks in front by a 9-3 margin with 11:09 to play. Dallas' Miguel Ferrara took the ensuing kickoff two yards deep in the end zone, came charging out, spun of a pair of tackles and raced 102 yards for what ultimately was the game-winning touchdown.

The second play came as it appeared Seattle was marching down the field to regain the lead, but David Muth was stripped of the football running inside the Cowboys' 5. Penalties on Seattle's last two possessions prevented the team from mounting a serious scoring threat.

Don't put it all on Muth, though. The Seahawks' offense picked up 313 yards but failed to get the ball into the end zone. Chris Jordan was 29-for-36 for 213 yards. Chad WIlks had 102 yards combining his rushing and receiving totals.

Seattle (6-3) hosts Irvine (7-2) in a west coast clash next.

For the second consecutive week, the Seahawks found themselves unable to put points on the scoreboard as the team fell 17-3 to the Anteaters of Irvine. With the euphoria of a 4-game winning streak and celebration of the team's highest victory count squarely in the rear view mirror, Seattle slides to 6-4 for the season now.

And given the schedule ahead, they'd better get the ship straightened in a hurry if they plan to hold on to that wildcard slot that is presently theirs. (Hey, Seattle fans aren't accustomed to talking playoffs, we're going to do it while we can here at Sea WHAT?)

For the second consecutive week, the Seahawks surrendered a kick return for a touchdown due to a failure to complete tackles on special teams. This time, the damage was tallied at a full 110 yards for the stat book.

Seattle outgained Irvine 275-265, but it was the Anteaters who proved the more efficient in their use of the yards gained. Several Seahawk drives petered out near midfield, just beyond the range of kicker Byron Cheek. Once the scoreboard reached the fourth quarter, the Seattle offense simply checked out, losing 8 yards over the final 15 minutes.

Chris Jordan was 26-for-32, but once again the throws all worked the shorter zones and resulted in just 163 yards overall. The rookie might be running into a wall as he adapts to the length and pace of the professional game.

Seattle heads to Washington (5-5) for what has suddenly become a critical must-win game for the Seahawks' postseason chances.

Byron Cheek pushed a 31-yard field goal wide to the right in the final minute of the contest to send Seattle to a 10-9 defeat and the team's third consecutive loss. Another week, another chapter of an all-too-recent story -- your Seahawks couldn't do much of anything on offense.

Chris Jordan completed 21 passes, but they only amounted to 138 yards as Seattle managed just over 200 yards as a team in the contest. Seattle struggled to move the ball at all in the contest until a late-game fumble provided the team a bit of a spark that helped it push down into kicking distance for Cheek before the fateful miss.

It was one of three takeaways for the Seattle defense. A pair of first-half interceptions transformed into a pair of Cheek field goals before intermission. Cheek added a third kick before the half as Seattle led 9-0 at the break. Washington came out a totally different team in the second half, however. The 'Skins moved the ball at will seemingly, taking the lead with a touchdown and a field goal on their first two possessions after halftime.

Seattle falls to 6-5 on the year and needs to do something to try and right the team's direction.

Seahawk fans had more misery heaped upon them as Indianapolis connected for a chip shot 20-yard field goal with 1:55, then swatted down a 4th-and-1 pass attempt as the Seahawks scrambled to try and position themselves for a game winning kick. The result was a 20-19 win for the Colts and a fourth consecutive loss for Seattle.

Three of those four losses have been by a single point. So much for the positive vibes of a 6-2 start to the season.

Chris Jordan connected on a pair of first-half touchdown passes, but couldn't carry the mojo into the second half when a number of Seahawk possessions annoyingly ended just beyond field goal range. The dagger came in the fourth quarter as the Colts put together a 92-yard drive from their own 6 to the Seahawk 2. The marathon march burned more than 11 and a half minutes off the clock to result in the game-winning score.

Jordan finished 24-for-31 for 216 yards. Defensively, Seattle picked off the Colts three times in the game, helping to set up some of their first-half points as the team build a 16-7 lead before giving up a late touchdown just before the half. The Seahawks were also destroyed by the third touchdown return against the special teams unit in four weeks. If there was a special teams coach, his *** would be getting sacked at the end of the season. Since there isn't one, the GM is going to read every thread he can on the subject of special teams, because he's getting really sick of this.

The Seahawks (6-6) will try to right the ship when they host the Cardinals (2-10) for their next action.

Craig Burleson's 6-yard touchdown run with 1:52 to play capped a 90-yard touchdown drive and snapped a 4-game skid for the Seahawks in a 17-10 victory over Arizona. The win bumps Seattle to 7-6 this season.

After watching their team lose 3 of their last 4 games by a single point, including two by identical 10-9 scores, Seattle fans certainly were not happy to see Arizona pull into the lead by that exact score in the fourth quarter. But rookie QB Chris Jordan kept his composure and helped march the club down the field. For the night, he was 28-for-32 for 255 yards.

James Galdamez caught 7 passes for a team-best 78 yards. Craig Burleson finished with a combined 109 yards rushing and receiving. Of course, none of the late-game drama would have been necessary had the Seahawks not missed a pair of field goal attempts from fairly close range. Seattle also overcame a pair of costly early-game fumbles.

The Seahawks head to New York to face the Giants (5-8) for their next action.

Craig Burleson ran for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the Seahawk defense went off to the tune of 14 quarterback sacks and a trio of safeties in a 35-16 Seattle win over the Giants last night. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 8-6 on the season and keep alive their slim postseason dreams of postseason football.

Despite Burleson's performance, this one was really all about the defense. Paul Bence, the Seahawks' first-round selection two seasons ago, finished with seven of those 14 sacks as he overwhelmed the GIants' line. Leonard Sharkey and Douglas Ambrose added two apiece.

The Giants' only offensive weapon for the night consisted of a pair of long touchdown receptions by superstar Roger Davis. Davis outran the Seahawks' secondary for TD catches amounting to 161 combined yards. Throw out those two plays and the GIants gained 55 yards the rest of the night.

Seattle hosts unbeaten San Francisco for its next action, which will also be the team's final home game for the season.

Training camp was pretty blah for the Seahawks.

Fourth-round selection Carter Batchelor was the only player to impress, and even then just barely. The tight end prospect out of Alabama gained a pair of points, which should assure him of permanent duty as the team's second TE barring an acquisition.

Third round pick Donald Blake and sixth-round pick George Campbell, both centers, each dropped a point. Blake is safe. Campbell probably just assured that he'll find the cut list preseason.

Second round selection Dwight Alongi dropped 2 points. The RG is obviously still a desirable commodity along the O-Line, but won't blossom as hoped.

Over on the opposite side, LG fifth-round pick Warren Cleaver will probably leave it and head back to Nebraska after dropping 4 points in training camp.

Which leaves Stinker of the Camp honors to seventh-round Purdue signee Joseph Bowman, who dropped 6 points. Not good since he was a long shot already to make the roster.

With camp out of the way, the Seahawks will now set about trimming $3.6 million from their payroll to get into salary cap compliance.

FILL STEAL'S FOOTBALL FORECAST -- The good news is that Seattle enters the season off its best performance in franchise history. The bad news is that performance was achieved with a mere 8-8 record. The good news is Seattle made it through the preseason with a 3-0-1 record. The bad news is they play in a stacked division with both San Fran and LA. quarterback Chris Jordan impressed a year ago as a rookie and needs to avoid any sort of sophomore slump. On paper, the team looks like it has what it takes to contend for a spot in the postseason, but playing in a killer division leaves that an unknown. There are also some depth issues at positions that may or may not come into play depending on what the injury fairy decides to leave under the pillow this season. We'll set the over/under bar for wins this year at 10 and cross our fingers that it is enough to get Seahawk fans into the promised land.

The Seattle Seahawks opened the season by getting smacked back to reality by a 41-3 margin by Los Angeles. Forget that glitzy preseason folks, that chasm between the divisional have's and the have-not's appears as wide as ever.

Seattle appeared on its way to answering an game-opening touchdown drive by LA with a score of its own, but the drive bogged down and the field goal kick slipped wide. Not long after, the Xtreme connected on a long pass completion back into Seattle territory and the rout was on.

While Seattle was able to move the ball for periods of time, they were held off the scoreboard until the third period, after LA had posted a 31-0 start to the contest. On defense, the Seahawks were, at best, passive resistance as LA rolled to 480 yards of offense.

"It'll get better," said Seattle coach Timothy Smith. "It has to"

For Seattle fans looking for a silver lining, can we at least point out that, in spite of the trip to the woodshed, the Seahawks debut at No. 10 in the Power Rankings? Seattle will look for better things when Kansas City (0-1) comes calling next week.

A weekʻs worth of frustration over a disastrous season-opening defeat came pouring out at the expense of the visiting Kansas City Chiefs. Seattle dismantled the visitors by a 47-3 final count to level their record at 1-1 this season.

After a soul-crushing 41-3 loss to Los Angeles, this was just what the doctor ordered.

Chris Jordan was 34-for-42 for 405 yards and four touchdowns against one interception. Two of those touchdowns went to Robert Adams, who finished the night with 10 receptions for 165 receiving yards. Billy Woods and Chad Wilks also pulled in touchdown passes for Seattle, which built a 13-0 lead at the half, but then erupted for 24 points in the third period to break the game wide open.

For his effort, Jordan was recognized as one of the leagueʻs players of the week.

Also receiving recognition was cornerback Michael Moulder. Moulder picked off a pair of Kansas City passes in the contest, including one which he returned 26 yards for a score during the Seahawksʻ third-quarter explosion. Moulder also paced the team with eight tackles. Greg Forman added a pair of sacks, including one that resulted in a fumble recovery by the veteran defensive end.

Seattle hosts Detroit (1-1) for its next action.
