Operation Revive Red Dragon

Press release from Bai Wun Soon, new owner of the Red Dragon franchise.

Oh boy, have we upset the good folks of LA. We have decimated the roster, announced our intentions to relocate to Chinatown, New York, a move which the League Office has denied until the end of this season. As you can imagine, that hasn't made me too popular amongst what remains of the Red Dragon faithful.

Sportstalk Jocks are having a field day and we are expecting to see the stadium barely half full throughout this transitional season. Those that turn up may well cheer our opponents

We have traded out a couple of big name, fat cat salaried players for picks in drafts '26 and '27. Our Cap situation this year dictates that we may struggle to sign up any of them - even the overall #1 pick. We have spoken to close to 100 free agents in the last few days to hopeful pad out this roster, getting players in on bare minimum deals won't be easy. Again, this has not pleased the locals - Man, we need to get out of this town and feed Big Apples to revive this almost dead, Red Dragon.

When we get to NY, we will arrive with a clean slate, very little dead cap and masses of draft picks for the following two years. If the New Yorkers can be patient, they should see the Red Dragon roar within 4 or 5 seasons.

Strange day, was approached by a rather beguiling young blonde, who claimed to be the 'Mother of Dragons'. She wanted to approach the League owners and threaten to burn down their HQ if they didn't bend the knee and allow her to inject $30 million dollars to what she called a 'failing franchise'.

Listen Miss Targaryen, said I. We don't need no stinking cash to get little Red Drogon back on his feet. We're doing just fine, so Daenerys if you'd like to get the **** out of my office and don't let the door smack your cute little tush on the way out. When I'm good and ready, I'll sell you the franchise but for now, I own the Red Dragon and I'll rebuild it from scratch, my way with no artificial, inflated sweeteners.

In other news we assembled 66, yes 66 players for a pre draft mini-camp - seems money is not everything to guys who just want to play some Football. We've made some initial cuts, put a couple of players up for trade and we are close to having a franchise who can compete this year - at least, compete to avoid next years #1 overall draft pick.

We have a couple of pressing needs which we hope to address, either via the draft this year, or next year. We have off loaded our franchise QB Little and have three very different QB's to fight it out for the starting job. Do we go with the accuracy of the Prom King, the arm of the Fink Panther or the elusivity of James Farr.

Peter Vu at WR was a great acquisition and with solid depth at WR he may prove to be the steal of the season.

We will continue to tinker with this team for the time being, but we are coming along just fine.

------

by the way, thanks for the offer of the $ advance, but I knew how this franchise was when I stepped in and I'm on a mission to show that you can turn a dead Duck into a beautiful Swan given time and effort :o) We're legit and we don't want any future success to be clouded by the stigma of 'special treatment' - thanks also to those who have offered trades and those who we have traded with. I hope you'll all be looking out for the Red Dragon (unless you're playing against us lol)

So first pick overall goes on a potential shut down cover corner in Ron Green. It was coinflip gamble with the second (potentially safer) choice in DT Tom Simpson who went 3rd overall.

Green has it all, including the swagger, sass and attitude that the very best players have. If it all goes well, Green will take away one side of the field and force teams to throw into crowded areas. He has work to do in learning our schemes and improving his positioning, rather than relying on his natural talent and speed.

He is a key piece in the Red Dragon revival, youngest player (by far) on a bloated roster see's him as the face of the franchise for the next decade. However, it all comes down to his attitude. If he's on board and gives it his all, he's a future Hall of Famer!!!

Well here it is, after the most brutal off season in any teams history, The patched up Red Dragon are ready for there first pre-season game, they said it couldn't happen, the franchise would die and yet here they are a rag-tag bunch of over the hill, unwanted, unneeded group of Pro footballers ever assembled.

Despite this, hope springs eternal. The roster will continue to be tinkered with, we'll be keeping a sharp eye on waiver wire cuts, the free agent pool and maybe even try to work a trade or two. This season will be a lesson in hard knocks and tough love. Those that survive it will be stronger for it.

We have a very experienced roster for this year, but with a whole heap of draft picks over the next few years the Red Dragon will quickly become the youngest franchise in the league. This season's target is to get through it. One win will be the Coaching job of the year, multiple wins should see talk of the Hall of Fame hahaha

First up in Pre-season, the Anteaters. Lets see just how good/bad we really are....

Well, well, well....the little Red Dragon still has some fire in his belly. We may have lost the pre-season opener, but we coulda, shoulda, woulda won the game.

With the starters in we won the first quarter 6-0 (with a missed extra point), we snagged 2 interceptions and dominated the game. Then we sent in the second stringers and Fink immediately throws an INT, which they returned to the 2. Two plays later we're 7-6 down.

Irvine played well in the second quarter, but our D held up pretty well to go in down 13-6. In the second half we showed a lot of fighting spirit and closed the gap to 4 points. Then in a crazy end to the game, they missed a FG and gave us the ball with 1.10 left and no timeouts. We moved the ball and on the back of a big play got to 1st and goal at the 8 with 8 ticks on the clock...we completed the pass but came up a couple of yards short of a shock win.

Loads of positives from the game, plenty of negatives too - on the whole, delighted with the outcome (bar the final score) and Irvine look to be in for a long, long season....

Red Dragon win a nail biter . A road win for LA at divisional opponent Las Vegas Wraiths and what a game. With a safety providing the difference between these two teams.

LARD (Seems fitting) fans expectations may have grown exponentially, the owners hope that the win will help to remove the toxic atmosphere at the Dragon's Nest for the seasons remaining fixtures.

The two teams meet again, this time in LA in two weeks time, was this a fluke? Can the Red Dragon fire again? Only one way to find out....

In the meantime, LARD have a real tough matchup and will do well to avoid a 20+ point loss.

So 9-7, season literally went to the wire. The Dragon continues to make rapid progress.

The 1-4 end to the season was disappointing, but the 4 losses were all playoff teams - in fact we went 0-6 against playoff teams, so that has to be the next step.

The three results that were costly were the loss at divisional foe Las Vegas Wraiths (the only non play-off team to beat us) and the defeats to South Brisbane Raiders in week 2 and the week 16 loss at Terre Haute Terror - all three were 'coulda, shoulda' games.

Looking forward we have lots of low round picks in the draft, so we will target free agency as the main effort to improve for next year and throw darts at some high volatility players in the draft.

As always we are open to trades.

We are, in my humble opinion, ahead of schedule in our 3-5 year plan in having a winning season in year two. Expectations continue to grow but to be a playoff calibre team, you have to be able to beat playoff teams.
