The Thrashers edged out the Aztecs 3-0 in a tightly contested Wild Card playoff game on December 25. Both teams struggled to move the ball effectively, resulting in a defensive struggle that was decided by a lone field goal.

The game remained scoreless through the first half as defenses dominated the field. The Aztecs, led by head coach Joseph Poore, managed just 86 passing yards while rushing for 84. The Thrashers, under head coach Jordan Tobias, produced 160 yards passing and 79 yards on the ground but were unable to convert drives into touchdowns.

Punting played a significant role in field position throughout the contest. Aztecs punter Peter Moore and Thrashers punter David Rodriguez accounted for several exchanges that pinned teams deep in their own territory. Moore punted multiple times, including a 48-yard punt to gain some field position, while Rodriguez matched with punts up to 54 yards.

Turnovers also impacted the game flow. The Aztecs threw two interceptions, both picked off by Thrashers' Hector Esquivel, while the Aztecs defense forced one fumble and recovered it. Notably, Aztecs' linebacker Philip Whitcomb forced a fumble during the game.

The only points came in the third quarter when Thrashers kicker Doug Lyons made a 35-yard field goal late in the quarter. The Aztecs had a chance to score but failed to capitalize on their red zone opportunities, with no touchdowns or field goal attempts recorded.

Despite the loss, Aztecs running back Luis Vasquez was active on the ground, finishing with 84 rushing yards and a few receiving yards as well. Quarterback Willie Martinez completed 16 of 24 passes for 160 yards for the Thrashers but threw no touchdowns and was intercepted twice.

Each team was perfect in third-down conversions, with neither squad attempting any third-down conversions. Penalties were minimal, with the Thrashers called for one penalty for three yards and the Aztecs for one penalty for five yards.

The lack of scoring and offensive production points to an evenly matched defensive contest where the Thrashers edged the Aztecs due to more effective special teams play and a narrow margin of error. The Aztecs, with solid defense and limited offense, were unable to overcome the single field goal deficit as their season ended in the opening Wild Card playoff round.
