The Aztecs continued their dominant 2063 season with a 33-0 home victory over the Zeus in Week 7. Led by quarterback Andrés Santillana, who threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns, the Aztecs improved to 5-2, holding second place in the division.
Santillana connected early with Michael Peters on a 31-yard touchdown pass at 7:23 of the first quarter, giving the Aztecs a 7-0 lead after George Cook’s successful extra point. The Aztecs extended their lead in the second quarter with a goal-line strike from Santillana to Arturo Beltran, who scored from 3 yards out. Cook’s extra point made it 14-0.
Running back Luis Vasquez contributed significantly with 116 rushing yards and 51 receiving yards, helping sustain drives and keep the Zeus defense off balance. Although the Aztecs did not rush for any touchdowns, their balanced offense controlled the clock.
Cook added four field goals throughout the game, connecting from 36, 34, 31, and 44 yards, contributing to a perfect kicking day (4-for-4) and pushing the Aztecs’ advantage to 33-0.
Defensively, the Aztecs pressured Zeus quarterback Harold Henry all game, registering four sacks with Diego Carrillo contributing two and Juan Ohara one, who also intercepted Henry once. The defense also forced a fumble recovered by Mateo Galván and held Zeus to only 11 rushing yards on 18 carries.
Zeus struggled to sustain momentum, converting just 2-of-13 third downs and failing to reach the red zone. Zeus kicker Nathan Daniel missed both of his field goal attempts, including a 50-yarder wide right and a short 57-yarder.
Turnovers played a critical role as the Aztecs intercepted Henry three times while committing three interceptions themselves. The Aztecs also recovered a fumble from the Zeus early in the third quarter. These turnovers stifled any potential comeback attempts.
The Aztecs’ disciplined performance was evident in limiting penalties to just two for 25 yards, compared to Zeus’ six penalties for 61 yards.
Head coach Joseph Poore’s squad improved their points differential to +71 with this shutout, maintaining momentum in a tightly contested division where their record stands at 1-1. Zeus, now 2-5 and on a four-game losing streak, continue to struggle offensively with only 37 points scored this season.
The Aztecs will look to build on this comprehensive defensive and special teams performance as they prepare for upcoming divisional matchups in the 2063 regular season.
