The Aztecs did not merely beat the Saber Cats on Sunday. They turned the afternoon into a warning shot: 43-3, with a defense that made every Cats possession feel like a trapdoor and an offense that kept finding fresh ways to score.
Patrick Rivera’s three-yard touchdown catch from Andrés Santillana put Coyoacan ahead 7-0, and George Cook’s 28-yard field goal stretched it to 10-0. The Cats briefly found a crack when Matthew Lewis forced Rubén Ortega to fumble, but their chance vanished almost immediately. John Mancha threw an interception to Sebastián Huerta, then another to Javier Alvarez on the next Cats possession. Cook’s kick capped that early surge at 10-0.
Santillana connected with Arturo Beltran for a six-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, making it 17-0. Then Diego Carrillo buried Mancha in the end zone for a safety. The Cats’ offense was already in deep trouble; the Aztecs’ pass rush made sure it stayed there. Coyoacan finished with 11 sacks, while Saber Cats managed just 10 rushing yards and went 2-for-14 on third down.
There was a brief blemish: Mark Vibbert intercepted Santillana in the second quarter. But the Aztecs still carried a 22-0 lead into halftime, thanks to Cook’s 54-yard field goal. The game’s most electrifying moment opened the second half. David Foster took the kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown, and suddenly the margin was 28-0. Cook missed the extra point, but no one in the home crowd needed a calculator to understand the message.
Santillana later found Ortega for a 19-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 35-0. The quarterback finished with 254 passing yards and three touchdowns, though two interceptions kept the performance from being spotless. Beltran was his top target, totaling 138 receiving yards, while the Aztecs ground game piled up 225 yards. Foster led the way with 119 rushing yards and added a 13-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, making it 41-3.
The Cats finally got on the board with a field goal, but that was all the resistance they could muster. Santiago Romero sacked Mancha for a second Aztecs safety late, sealing the 43-3 final. The result leaves Joseph Poore’s Aztecs at 8-3, second in the division, while the 1-10 Saber Cats remain eliminated. Coyoacan’s message was blunt: this team can punish you through the air, on the ground, and from the opening kickoff.
Aztecs Turn Saber Cats’ Visit Into a 43-3 Rout
Coyoacan’s defense landed 11 sacks, David Foster broke loose for a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown, and the Aztecs moved to 8-3 with a statement win.
