The Monarchs’ unbeaten season has been built on control, and Sunday brought another familiar-looking result: a firm defensive grip, enough balance on offense and no letup when the Argonauts tried to hang around. John Rodriguez’s side beat its division rival 23-6 to reach 11-0 and keep its 11-game winning streak intact.
Ken Jones opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Russell White in the first quarter. Jerry Andrews added a 47-yard field goal early in the second, putting London ahead 10-0. The Argonauts answered with a 54-yard kick, but their attempt to build momentum ended when Kenny McEntyre intercepted Gene Tsao with just over two minutes left in the half.
The Monarchs made the turnover count. Jones found Richard Scott for an 11-yard touchdown, restoring a 14-point cushion before halftime. Andrews’ extra point made it 17-3.
Scott’s contribution went well beyond that scoring catch. He finished with 100 rushing yards and added 19 receiving yards, part of a Monarchs ground attack that piled up 170 yards on 30 carries. The balance mattered on a day when London completed 26 of 38 passes for 187 yards, with Jones accounting for both passing touchdowns. Tight end Jerry Alderman led the receiving group with 88 yards.
Andrews’ 29-yard field goal in the third quarter stretched the lead to 20-3. Jones was intercepted by Jeffery Watson later in the period, and Thomas Buckner’s 27-yard kick trimmed the margin to 14. It was the Argonauts’ only scoring response after halftime, and they never found the end zone. They finished with 76 passing yards and went 0-for-1 on their red-zone visit.
The fourth quarter brought another chance for the visitors to close the gap, but Don Henry forced a fumble and Buckner came up short on a 59-yard field-goal attempt. Andrews then supplied the final points with a 17-yard kick, completing a three-for-three day.
There is still a detail for Rodriguez’s team to address: the Monarchs converted only one of 11 third downs. But the larger shape of the afternoon was unmistakable. London ran effectively, made the key turnover count and kept the Argonauts to two field goals. With a playoff place already clinched and the record now 11-0, the Monarchs continue to turn weekly pressure into another step forward.
