The Aztecs converted 31 of 40 passes (77.5%) and paired 343 passing yards with 176 on the ground for 519 total yards in a 39-0 road win over Zeus on Saturday. The shutout was powered by a wide efficiency gap: Zeus completed 14 of 31 passes for 103 yards, threw an interception and managed no rushing yards on seven carries. Coyoacan’s defense added four sacks and forced two fumbles, recovering both.
Andrés Santillana drove the early separation, finishing with 343 passing yards and four touchdowns. The Aztecs scored on their opening quarter’s first highlighted drive, then struck again with 2:44 remaining in the period when Santillana connected with Patrick Rivera for a 26-yard touchdown. George Cook’s extra points made it 14-0. Cook’s 49-yard field goal early in the second quarter stretched the margin to 17-0.
The offense was not flawless. Santillana was intercepted twice in the second quarter, and the Aztecs finished 5-for-13 on third down. But Zeus could not turn those chances into points. The Aztecs’ defense kept the home side scoreless, while the attack found the end zone four times in seven red-zone visits.
A Zeus punt return fumble recovered by Esteban Nepomuceno gave the Aztecs possession at the ATH 20 in the third quarter. Santillana needed one play to capitalize, completing an eight-yard touchdown pass to Alberto Aguilar for a 24-0 lead. The balanced production continued: Arturo Beltran led the receiving group with 114 yards and a touchdown, while running backs Luis Vasquez and David Foster supplied 78 and 70 rushing yards, respectively. Vasquez scored on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Coyoacan’s defense continued to make the margin harder to bridge. Rodrigo Martinez intercepted Harold Henry late in the fourth, and a sack by Diego Carrillo was followed by a Zeus fumble recovered by Dennis McIntire. Santillana then connected with Foster for a one-yard touchdown. Rubén Ortega ran in the two-point conversion to complete the scoring at 39-0.
Cook made one of three field-goal attempts; his two fourth-quarter tries from 35 yards went wide right. The misses did little to change the picture. The Aztecs, now listed at 11-4 and already having clinched a playoff berth, paired a 39-point output with a defense that allowed no points. Zeus is listed at 6-9 and eliminated.
