So it turns out even though I am the league admin, I don't actually get to admin our league because I don't subscribe. You need to be a paid subscriber to get access to all admin tools. So I never had access to the out of position control/limits. I talked to JDB, and he has given me temporary access to the settings. Basically, I can edit, but then after it gets set, I will lose the power to change it again, so whatever I plug in will be permanent (unless I finally surrender my hard earned cash to JDB - although I did do that at the beginning when I created this league). This is what the screen looks like:
Let me know if there are any things I should definitely edit. Like I think maybe RB to TE should be allowed. WR to RB/TE? DL and LB can switch? DB and LB can switch? Give me your thoughts and I will have around a week to decide.

The other admin tool I don't usually have access to is blocking the use of plays. Unless you convince me otherwise, I will leave all plays allowed.
The other changes we can make: changing injury rate, changing number of preseason/offseason weeks. I'm ok with keeping everything status quo there, but if you want change, this is your chance to advocate for it.

RB and WR to TE and FB.
CB S and LB to DL.
All position to all ST, except kickers.
Would be easier if there was a check all and then you unchecked.

The current meta is to just make your players as light and fast as possible. I don't know if there's really a point in having any other offensive position other than WR. Same with defense, you would just set your players to DB and LB. What would be the point in having a slower player in the current game engine.
I'm curious what the eventual game engine changes will look like. If speed gets nerfed and heavier players become playable, then I think what we have in the screenshot works fine.
If you want to use the speed advantage of smaller guys in this special glitchy game then change according to waitwut's suggestion. I'm not a friend of that.
I think the matrix mostly looks OK, but a few thoughts:
1. I'm absolutely against allowing DBs as d linemen - NO WAY that should be allowed. With the speed glitch, even 240 lb linebackers as a defensive lineman would be a huge advantage, but getting another 7-8 points of speed by letting a 191 lb cornerback be a DE would be completely ridiculous. Even DBs as LBs are an easy way to exploit the game engine with speed. Let's try to at least be slightly realistic.
2. I wouldn't allow kickers or punters to play either position: kickers kick, punters punt - period. Their skill ratings are so specialized that they're usually terrible if they try the other position. Punters should be allowed as kick holders though - they're usually highly rated.
3. I do agree with Wait about WRs as RBs, FBs or TEs. That's been around long enough that everyone knows to do it (or they should) - it's not even "cheating" anymore. The player generator is so terrible that there isn't a big enough pool of viable players now, so this is a workaround to make your offense functional. I had some WRs farther down in my RB depth chart and they all got blown out and I can't reinsert them, so I assumed that's what happened when it switched to the new UI with this matrix.
4. Wait's idea about allowing any player to play any special teams position (besides kicker or punter) is probably needed. I've converted lousy original QBs into better RBs but also used them as kick holders, so that's versatile.
General question: did JDB say anything about changing player's positions? Sometimes you'll find a TE in the draft pool that should be an o lineman, or an undersized LB that would obviously be a better safety with high coverage potentials - will that still be allowed? If players are stuck in the position they were originally created as and can never be changed, that also shrinks the pool of talented players.
No reason to ban any plays - trial and error or scouting other teams shows you the few plays that are actually effective right now. Don't think there's any reason to change the schedule or injury rate either - as annoying as it is to get serious or doubtful injuries to key players, it's a realistic part of the game.

I only said DB to DL to keep it realistic. Often in then NFL teams reduce their DLine to two or three DLineman, sometime being replaced by a linebacker or additional secondary players. Further, there are plays in MFN that require the dline to be in coverage.
Being honest the only thing that doesn’t change abnormally is the offensive line. Everything else in football has parity.
I have no real opinion though and will flex to whatever is decided.

No matter what, I’m fine with whatever decision is made. However, has a decision been made and this process completed with JDB?
Idk if it this situation or what, I cannot get into the depth chart via old UI because it is saying the link does not exist. In new UI my roster options are limited by the original chart you posted.
If we are limiting positions please say something so that I may properly adjust my depth chart. If not, can we get JDB to update so that there is minimal impact to tonight’s spin?

I am using old UI and I still have access to depth chart. No final decisions made yet, but seems like there is no consensus, other than people will go along with whatever gets decided. It's come down to a few competing factors. On the one hand, to limit the "14 WRs" team, having WRs ineligible at certain positions would cut that out - you would have to get a "real" FB/TE etc. Then again, in real life, the reality is that sometimes your WR does play in the backfield, in this day and age, and it could be a strategic choice to not have so many backup RBs, when you can have WRs do it. (and same logic applies to 14 CB defenses). And will limiting WR, just mean that people will go "well I have have 14 RB and play them at FB/TE, etc." My current "lean" is to make it so that you can play "one position over" like DB to LB, but not DB to DE. or WR to RB, but not WR to FB.
And I don't know how the computer will handle things if you "run out of players." Like you RBs get hurt - will they throw in a WR? I will make the final call on filling out that sheet on Friday night I guess, seeing as you all are pushing for resolution. I will post the final sheet in this thread.
Norm, that makes sense. Consider QBs should be convertible to any skill position. There have been some have been some solid late round QB-to-RB conversions. Also FB/TEs should be convertible to any OL position. Again some good late round conversions. Hopefully, the game progresses with the new UI. Maybe screenshot the OOP page before the change over?
