I've been tempted to try to substitute by formation, and have tried it on a limited basis in the past, but alas... I'm too lazy... lol
(Probably why I'm only a 2nd tier owner...)

I override certain formations, depending if I’m playing against the run or pass. I might put my best run defenders on Goalline but my fastest and best tacklers on the end and in the secondary to reach those sweeps and tosses.

Definitely case by case type thing - you can see the video some of the old men getting blown by when young legs run right past them. So depends on the player, the position and so on. So 29 and younger might not be so bad, assuming you have good players of course!

Overrides: I used to do it when starting out, but over the years have gotten lazy. If you have good players, the best ones should already be on the field already, so no special overrides needed. Maybe it makes more sense if you don't have good players, but rather than subbing in, for example, a run stopper in one formation, how about acquiring DL who can rush the passer and stop the run? Makes life easier. Maybe if I had more free time I'd look into overrides, but at this time, too busy to use time on that given that I'm comfortable playing my starters.

That's honestly why I haven't done it very much either. If you can acquire multiple fast, strong defenders at every position - ie Brooklyn's defense - they should have the talent to stop anything an offense attempts to do.

And regarding "old men" players, I just got smoked by Rapid City, so I retract everything! Going to replace my old guys with some under 29 speedsters who can tackle someone before they run for 60 yard TDs!

Does anybody have strong opinions on secondary WR skills? Besides catching, speed and acceleration that you want as close to 100 as possible, what's next most important - courage, B&R avoid or route running? For the longest time I thought it was route running to be in the right place for the QB, but now I'm guessing courage is actually most valuable when a WR (or TE) inevitably gets bumped off his route and has to fight for a catch.

Would the hierarchy of skills be:
1. Catching
2. Courage
3. B&R avoid
4. Route running

Not sure if I'm overthinking this
