Voice your opinion on the JAX/CLT trade

What do you think about the trade?

Both parties agreed, so let it go.

Grossly unfair, should be vetoed.

Charlotte Warthogs sends:
Karl Sturgeon (QB)
Jeremy Bedford (WR)
Jorge Langston (LG)
2019 Round 1 Selection 29

Jacksonville Jaguars sends:
2019 Round 1 Selection 1 (Jacksonville)
2021 Round 7 (Jacksonville)

Here is the deal, what do you think? Generally I would choose to avoid entanglement when the parties are independent and agree, but a few people complained, so I will throw this poll out there and see if more people are concerned. Vote now and if there is a lot of unhappiness, I will reach out to JDB about it.

Draft sim will be delayed one day to allow time for people to vote. Draft will now start on Monday. Round 2 on Tuesday, etc.

i am all for a fair deal but this trade is not.

from what i saw, jax didn't even try to sign any FAs (I could be wrong) and as of right now, Jax can go to FA and get himself some similar players with the money he has.

number 1 pick would get him a qb that is better than the one he traded for (there are at least 4 qbs who have a potential of 80+ ratings, 2 of which are potentially 90s)

in FA there are WRs who are on par with the one he traded for (i.e. Joe Ransom, Robert Dillion)

in FA there are oline men who are on par with the one he traded for (i.e. Charles Snider, Troy Smith, Kenneth Yates)

I understand that the numbers are in my favor, and I guess nobody else can see the message I sent him with the trade request.
I had no prior contact with the JAX owner. I'd encourage admin to verify that for you all. I simply believed and pointed out in the trade request message, that he needs a lot more players than one draft pick would get him. I offered him three players that will be starters for his team, plus my 1st round pick.
In effect, he gets four starters for one, on a team that needs pretty much a complete rebuild.

Since the trade is in my favor, however, I will not cast a vote.

i would argue that a complete rebuild does not come in one day. And with him trading a number 1 overall pick for pretty much players he can pick up in FA...i am not too sure it benefits him in anyway. he can sign these "starters" in FA and if not even better players if he took time to. it is not strong evidence but i would lean towards this was not a trade of good faith by an owner who is willing to commit to a rebuild. I am willing to bet that jax owner will leave this team in a year if not two. Even if he stays on, he won't be as active as other owners.

you don't have to share your message to us all, you can just DM commish if you wish.

One more thought, then I'll let you all decide.

Sturgeon was one of the first QB's taken in the expansion draft (rd 5). His default rating is 77/77, and had a bonus loaded contract. JAX only has to pay him $236,950 next year. I'm still on the hook for the rest. The best FA QB is 68/73, at the end of last season, turned down a contract making more than $6M/yr.

Bedford has a 67/77 default, and his progress is still on the rise. He has average speed, but looks to max out in catching, route running, and ball carry. He also has a high B&R avoid rating. The best FA WR has a 73/76, is slower, and has subpar route running and catching ratings. He's also asking for over $1M/yr, as opposed to the $434k Bedford will cost JAX.

Langston was my #1 pick last year. His default rating is 74/82, and he started all 16 games for me at LG last season, (Which was a pretty good year ;) ). Jorge's original contract hasn't been renegotiated yet, but his cost to JAX is still only $1.8M. Compare that to the top FA LG, who has a default rating of 37/75.

As far as the JAX owner's intentions, I have no idea. I had deep talent at a few positions, and think the deal makes sense. I'm not in the business of reading other people's minds.

I just ask you all to ask yourself if you're inclined to vote to cancel the trade... "Am I voting this way because I believe Bill is trying to pull one over on the league, or am I voting this way because I want to hurt a playoff team?".

If it's the former, I'm sorry that you think that way about me. If it's the latter, you're actually doing more harm to the league than what I'm accused of doing.

I'll be waiting for the results.

I don't think the issue here is necessarily solely on how fair the trade is. It definitely is not a good trade and I wouldn't have done it if I was Jacksonville. But the additional issue for me are the points that chaospika mentioned. The guy does not have a track record of staying in leagues, and he doesn't seem to perform too well in most of the leagues (the guy lost to punisher 47-0, how much is he really trying?). He made no attempts to sign guys, and there were a lot of really solid free agents this season. I don't think this guy is actually trying to build a team or understands what it takes to build a team.

Personally, I think we need to give this guy the boot. He was definitely here for all the free agency periods and made no attempts to sign anyone. He then makes a very questionable trade that I don't think any veteran owner would make. Finally, he has a very poor track record in other leagues, save for one or two leagues where he inherited a very good team.

I've recruited most of the new comers here and the initial batch was just anyone who was willing to join. Recently, I've been inviting owners who had a reasonable track record in their leagues and I think that should be the way we go from here on out. I think we can reasonably trust that a decent veteran owner won't make questionable trades so that we can avoid these types of situations.

To norm, my suggestion is that you do a quick check of each prospective owner prior to letting them join. Just make sure that they have a decent track record. Most of the guys attempting to join will have received an invite from me, especially when they come in at once. However, there will be a few that slip through the cracks like Jacksonville and the two most recent owners who literally joined the site today.

Regarding the trade, I don't think anyone here believes you were trying to take advantage of a user or are vetoing because you're a playoff team. This trade just doesn't make sense based off of the owner's inaction. Salaries of the players is not an issue either because the team is 71 million under the cap. I would only trade the #1 overall pick if I'm getting a lot of high draft picks, or if I'm getting some 90+ rating players. Not a late first, a decent WR, decent OL, and a QB who has 57 pass accuracy.

Please stop playing the victim in this. No one is trying to hurt your team or the owner. The points made were simply opinions of other owners and clearly on the basis of "do we really think jax owner is trying to build a team or not." No one is trying to hurt the said image of you or your team. The facts are just there for everyone to see that jax never tried to sign any of the capable FAs on the market this year. There were multiple 80s players and even some 90s players the owner could've signed, yet jax made no attempt to sign them.

Not once did we state "OMFG Charlotte is taking advantage of jax," or "billstein is taking advantage of jax." The points made were all based on "do we really believe this trade was made in good faith that jax is trying to rebuild a failure?" or "does jax have some genius plan in mind ala "the process" that we fail to understand."

If I'm not taking advantage of JAX, which you just said for yourself, why are you seeking to punish me?
And yes, reversing this trade would be punishment to me, and I will not forget those pushing it when they need my help in the future.
I only see one team strongly pushing this, and it just so happens to be a team I beat in the playoffs.
Alternative motives maybe?

And who cares what JAX's reason was? The trade was LEGAL by MFN's trade policies, and I challenge anyone to show it was not offered in good faith, or offered in collusion, which should be the only reasons to reverse a trade.
