Do we not have a punt exploit rule?

I thought we had one in this league, but I can't find it.

I don't believe we have any rules explicitly banning anything. Tasmania has gotten a decent amount of blocked punts this year. I'm unsure if that's just due the special teams blockers (mine weren't set apparently) or just putting some speed guys to rush the punt. From a quick inspection, the guys getting the blocks aren't excessively fast with speeds at mid to low 80s which an elite DE/LB can attain.

I'm not making a conclusion here, I'm just unsure what the exploit is. I have experienced it in my game against Tasmania so I do know it happens but I'm not sure how it is prevented just yet. Is it setting your special teams blockers? Setting only fast blockers? Limit the speed of the rushers? I do know kick holding factors into the likeliness of getting a blocked punt but Charlottes punter has fairly high kick holding so that can't be the case here.

I'm not saying he wouldn't have won anyway, but down by 17 and get a punt blocked on your own 20, it's game over.

The guy that blocked it was a DB coming from the DT spot. Blatant exploit.

If it's not an exploit, why's JDB "fixing" it?

I guess we have (or had, to this point in time) too much respect for each other to worry about someone using an exploit.

Such is the game, I guess.

Bill, to this point, like you said, we've operated on the mutual respect theory. I've tried to avoid excessive rules and commissioner interference in the league. I also don't want to spend all day policing other team's lineups, so we've always trusted everyone to do what's right and fair. Not playing in multiple leagues, I'm also not up to date on all the exploits that exist. If this is something that the league thinks is an issue we can consider instituting some kind of rule. What have other leagues done regarding this?

And TAZ, as there was no rule in place and many of us weren't even aware of this, there won't be any repercussions or anything. We just want to clean things up if needed going forward.

Every other league I've stayed in, has said nobody under 237 lbs on the line for punt defense.

I left all other leagues that allowed exploits.

How do we check that? I mean I just looked at TAZ's roster and no CB or S is listed as ST rusher. He did it as an override I guess? It's not easy to see. Meaning, even if we make this rule, I don't know how we enforce it, well, until after the fact when we see punts getting blocked.

Edit: Here's another thing to consider - there may also be accidental happenings. I just looked at my punt lineup (for the first time ever) and evidently my backup SS is one of my 4 defensive line people on my punt return play. I did not set this, but he's my #4 ST rusher by autosort. But he's also only speed 61, so I've never blocked any punts.

Edit 2: of course, that guy who blocked the punt for TAZ was his 20th ranked ST rusher, so probably unlikely an unintentional thing.

You don't get players with numbers 38, 23, 30, and 25 on the line without overrides.

It was done purposefully.

But... I hesitate to say Cajun cheated, if the league didn't outlaw it.

I will say, however, that Cajun is experienced enough to know it's an exploit. I considered him a friend before this, but thought he had more integrity.

He probably would have beat me anyway, but the fact is, using an exploit means you're willing to go outside of the morals of the game.

Do we want a fair playing field, or are we another internet game that will go down to "griefers", using exploits to beat players who try to keep it honest?

.

download the csv File, convert it to Excel and filter and you can easily see who are the ST Rushers on a punt
