I go to the game log and use the f3 function to search for 'punt b'.
I oppose league rules on principle. Don't want to give
admin-who-shall-not-be-named (
not norm) any more excuses to act like a **** in the MFN community, or deal with a proliferation of rules with all the leagues I'm in.
However ... in this case it has become clear that there is an exploit, both on punt blocks and on the 46 Heavy 2 Deep Man play. The blockers simply haven't been picking up their assignments, so speed rushers get through. Timing is the critical attribute for punters to combat this. It can happen to 100 timing punters, but the likelihood is much lower.
The good news is, after working on it for a season and a half, we may have a fix in BETA. We've had three weeks with just one punt block, it was against a non-punter with low timing, and it came from an inside wing, not the line. If it's not solved, at least we're on the right track. Looks like this promising fix should roll-out to the leagues before our next season.
The best way to prevent it for now is with a rule or gentleman's agreement to keep light players off the line, and not use that 46 Heavy play at all. Many leagues have instituted a rule banning anyone under xxx lbs. from playing at ST Rusher (either depth chart or overrides). The ranges run from 215 to 250 lbs. 237 is a number I can live with, if we decide it is needed.
