Our first countdown... with all the talk about trades, counting down the 10 best/worst trades of all time! Everyone talks about how teams make big moves to get better, but how many actually pay off and which ones are disastrous? We're counting down the 6 most lopsided trades in Football Moguls history... but first the honorable mentions. These trades were made too recently for their full effect to be quantified, but suffice it to say that by the 30th anniversary, these will probably be up on the list. Starting with...
Honorable Mention 1: The Terra Haute Terror traded QB Wayne Smith to the Colts for three draft picks for two second rounds picks and a first rounder. Smith played 3 seasons for Indy throwing for 36 TDs and 46 INTs. Meanwhile, the three picks turned out to be:
2026 2-21: Robert Clark (RB)
2027 1-4: Steven Bowie (FB)
2027 2-5: David Dean (FS)
Bowie was a Super Bowl hero for Terra Haute and is considered one of the best fullbacks in the league. David Dean has the most knockdowns all time as a DB and is still playing.
Honorable Mention 2: The Houston Golden Dragon trade two firsts and a second to the SF Demons for Frank Johns (WR). Johns has never cracked 1000 yards for Houston/Pennsauken, and has only 27 TDs. Meanwhile, those picks were used on:
2030 2-8: Clint Walter (RB)
2031 1-18: Brian Johnson (DT)
2032 1-5: Donald Gaines (SS)
Gaines was part of the world champion SF Demons defense and looks to be a star for years, so this trade will look worse and worse as time passes. Waller was so good that Pennsauken wound up trading for him costing another 2 second rounders. Johnson hasn’t been a star, but is still in the league playing meaningful minutes.
Honorable Mention 3: The Los Angeles Xtreme trade QB Wayne Smith to the Atlanta Falcons for two second round picks. Smith’s Falcons career totals are 2 TDs and 29 INTs, which is of course, absolutely terrible. And those two second rounders? Los Angles used them to select:
2031 2-3: Ernest Williams (QB)
2032 2-4: Randall Blanton (TE)
Yes, Atlanta traded away the pick that became 2 time MVP Williams as well as one of the top TEs in the NFC, Blanton. 10 years from now, this will definitely be viewed among the most lopsided trades of all time.
But now, we go to the top 6! Stay tuned as we unveil the winners and losers. I'm sure there are some you already can guess, but also others that you may have forgotten about.
