Another regular season is in the books, and once again, we saw some history being made. We were witnesses to the third ever perfect regular season. However, this time no one individual led the charge. Rather, the 16-0 Los Angeles Xtreme were led by its stifling defense, which allowed a league low and near record 116 points on the season. The defense featured standout CB
Rudy Ayers, who had 10 interceptions. However, history remembers that the last two teams to finish the regular season undefeated did not walk away with the championship. Will the trend continue this post-season?
Meanwhile, the rest of the league featured some new offensive stars. RB
Robert Salazar of The Real Kayfabe led the league in rushing yards, followed by
Martin Deskins of Arizona.
George Erwin of Arkansas was probably hailed and reviled in fantasy leagues as he led the league with 19 rushing TDs, including a record setting 9 in a single game!
As for receivers, it was business as usual for
Christopher Taylor of New York who had another amazing year and garnered some MVP consideration. Even though everyone in the world knew what route he was running, he could not be stopped. He led the league with 1896 yards and 23 TDs, head and shoulders above the pack.
As for individual defenders,
Joseph Pauley of Chicago and
Joseph Fields of Detroit we this year's sack masters, but of course both had the benefit of padding their stats against Miami. Pauley had a record setting 9 sacks in one game.
In the defense backfield, we something not seen since the days of Deion Sanders - Football Moguls' first true two way player, TE/CB
William Bogen of Boston! With a league leading 14 INTs (albeit 4 against Miami), Bogen proved that you can answer the question of offense or defense, with the word "both." Of course, there were also great DB seasons from CB
Claude McKenna of South Brisbane, who had 10 INTs and LB
Joseph Benson of Detroit, also with 10 INTs.
But as usual, our MVP discussion will come down to the gunslingers and there really only were two real candidates for the trophy. Reigning MVP,
John Spartan of Arkansas again attempted to demolish the league, with totals of 45 TDs, 4393 yards and a QB rating of 114.47. But despite how great those numbers look, he was outdone in each category by someone else. Someone who did not even have the advantage of playing two games against Miami. Your 2027 league MVP is QB
Bruce Cassidy of New York! In his first season taking over from franchise legend Richard Williams, Cassidy silenced all his critics by leading the league with 46 TDs and an insane 126.33 QB rating, while throwing for 4468 yards. The $12M a year contract the Giants handed him to take over for Williams, which at the time seemed like a risk to give up on a proven legend, has now turned out to be the driving force of New York's 15-1 season. Will Cassidy have the same post-season magic as Williams? And will the Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies again regret letting go of another MVP QB?
