The 2029 regular season is in the books. This year saw fierce competition and the playoffs are sure to be exciting as there appear to be strong teams throughout the league. But looking at the individual top performers, we start with the rushers.
Running back
Edmond Johnson pulled off a Marshall Faulk like all around season with over 1000 yards rushing and receiving, leading the way for the Patrick Spinner-less Demons. The only thing holding him back from MVP consideration was his lack of touchdowns.
Albert Murtha of the OrangeCrush also had a career year, coming out of nowhere to rush for over 1100 yards and 7 TDs. He also added over 900 receiving yards. And while we are talking about dual threat RBs, Chicago’s
Curtis Branch, Arizona’s
Martin Deskins and Irvine’s
Eduardo Johnson also put up over 2000 combined yards. We are living in the era of multitalented running backs.
But let’s not forget the wide receivers. They were headlined this year by second year sensation
Sam Evans of the Pirates. The former number one overall pick did not disappoint in his sophomore season, putting up a league leading 1770 receiving yards and 21 TDs, and place himself squarely in the MVP talk by leading the Pirates to the playoffs for the first time in years.
San Francisco’s
Marvin Lane continued to burn opponents on deep routes with 17 TDs.
Switching over to the defensive side of the ball, the Los Angeles Xtreme had one of the top defenses this year so it’s no surprise that this seasons sack masters were the twin combination of
Jose Robertson (16 sacks) and rookie sensation
Joseph Greene (13 sacks).
Los Angeles also obviously had top pass defenders too with
Rudy Ayers tied for the league lead with 9 INTs along with
Brian Langton of the OrangeCrush and
Rafael Shaw of Detroit.
But once again the MVP award will go to a quarterback and this year the choice is clear. Yes,
Otis Danley of San Francisco had a career year, with a career high 39 TDs and 103 QB rating.
James Brill of the Pirates was another QB in a new location putting up a career year, with over 5000 passing yards and 40 TDs, more than his career totals prior to this year. But one QB stood head and shoulders above the rest. Battling in perhaps the toughest division in football, he led his team to the division crown. On the way, he led the league with 5799 passing yards and 45 TD passes. And yes, he put the Bears over the top in the NFC North. Your 2029 MVP is Chicago QB
George Wilson!
